CANDIDATE FAQs

Frequently asked questions by our candidates seeking opportunities

What are the requirements for Indian nurses to work in the UK?

  • You must be a fully qualified nurse with a nursing degree /Diploma. One year of experience would be preferable but is not mandatory in a nursing role.

  • Proficiency in the English language is vital which includes speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills. This needs you to take one of two examinations accepted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Is there a need for prior work experience?

Previously, overseas nurses and midwives wishing to join the register needed to have practiced for 12 months after their qualifications. Fortunately, this requirement has been removed now and applicants can apply to join right after their qualification. However, most employers in the UK would want at least 1-3 years of overseas nursing experience before they offer a job.

Do I need to check my eligibility prior to applying?

You should self-assess your eligibility before you begin the application process. You must confirm that you meet the minimum requirements of good health and character. If you confirm the declaration and cannot provide the evidence at the assessment stage of the process, you will not be allowed to progress, and the assessment fees will be forfeited.
